OVER 2,000,000 MARK
VICTORIA’S POPULATION (9.39 a.m.! SYDNEY, Jan. 30. Victoria’s population passed the 2,000,000 mark during 1945, according to provisional figures submitted by the Commonwealth Government to the Premiers’ conference. Because of enlistments and the abnormal migration which occurred during the war, accurate estimates of the population are hard to make. A census will be held as early as possible, probably some time after June, 1947. According to the latest Commonwealth estimates, the population of Australia is now 7.322,000, divided among the States as follows: New South Wales, 2,385.000: Victoria. 2,006,000; Queensland, 1,071,000; South Australia, 025,000; Western Australia, 488,000; Tasmania, 247,000.
