SUCCESSIVE WINS

R. GRAHAM’S RINK HERETAUNGA TOURNEY The Kahutia team skipped by K. Graham had a highly successful run in the annual tournament of the Heretaunga Bowling Club, which concluded on Saturday with Graham winning the open rinks section for the second year in succession. An interesting feature of the performance was that his opponent was K. Bissell, Havelock North, who skipped the losing team in last year’s final also. The winning rink comprised S. Gooch, G. Brebner. R. Hickman and R. Graham, and in section play they suffered only one loss. In the semi-final round, Graham met a good team skipped by Hall, Heretaunga, and enjoyed a comfortable win by 23 to 16. The final match was even until the thirteenth hc-ad was reached, with the score 9—9. Graham scored a three on the next head, and a single on the fifteenth, but Bissell came back with a three on the next, and was only one point in arrears with live heads to go. Graham scored on each of the remaining heads, however, a three on the nineteenth putting him beyond his opponent’s reach and the game winding up at 20—12. The standard of play in the tournament was high, and a Gisborne club rink skipped by W. Bignell came close to reaching the final. This rink was defeated by Bissell’s in the semi-final by only two points, the score being 16—14 in favour of the Havelock North ship, who was three down when he played his last bowl to draw the shot.
