N.Z. MARKET BETTER

AUSTRALIAN CLOTHS HIGHER PRICE OFFERED (10 a.rn.) CANBERRA, Jan. 19. New Zealand is a more profitable market for the best Australian cloths than the domestic market, according to a statement by Government officials to-day. This is because New Zealand is prepared to pay a higher price for the best Australian suit lengths than the price permitted by the Prices Commission to be charged locally. Because of this higher remuneration, manufacturers are encouraged to send their cloth to New Zealand if they can, but the quantity is restricted as export can be done only under licence. The Government believes that everything possible should be done to develop the market for Australian cloths in New Zealand and export is continuing though hundreds of discharged Australian servicemen desperately need suits.
