Tho Maori births at Wairoa for 1945 showed an increase, whilst tho European figures showed a very slight drop. The deaths recorded were practically the same, but the number of marriages showed an increase, 17. By Justices of the Peace: Civil 1, criminal 61. Plaints entered, 28; civil cases heard, 30; judgment summonses issued, 42; civil warrants issued, 48; applications heard in court or chambers, 43. Criminal business: Cases, 344; children’s court, 63; criminal warrants issued, 43. Fees: Civil, £224; criminal, £lO7 13s 8d; fines, £458 15s. Tho death occurred at tho Cook Hospital, Gisborne, yesterday of Mr. Charles O’Donnell at the age of 43 years. Mr. O’Donnell, who was a married man, was well known in tho Wairoa district, he having conducted the meal houses at Waikaremoana for a long term. He was held in high esteem by a largo circle of friends, who will learn of his passing with deep regret. The funeral took place in Gisborne to-day. Misses L. Lambert and H. Vallancc, who trained at tho Wairoa Hospital, have been successful in passing their maternity examination. Many Wairoa residents learned with regret of the death of Mr. David Paul Sedcole, which occurred in Wairoa on Wednesday evening. Mr. Sedcole, who was 67 years of age, was born at Lyttelton and came to Wairoa many years ago, residing here ever since. Ho was interested in farming, which he followed up to the time of his retirement. He was noted for his straightforwardness and honesty, whilst he was also of a generous nature. His passing is deeply regretted and sympathy will he extended to Mrs. Sedcole and the members of his family, Mesdames W. ,T. Ebitt and I. Osmond, Wairoa, Mesdames K. Raymond and E. Cooper, Te Puke. The funeral took place In Wairoa to-day.
