CROQUET TOURNEY
TROPHIES PRESENTED
The final games for the Centre Cup were played on the Turanga Croquet Club’s green on Thursday under the auspices of the Poverty Bay Croquet Centre. To decide the A Championship Singles for the Centre Cup Mrs. E. Munro, ICia Toa Club, Hastings, met Mrs. H. Gilmer, Gisborne Club, and was defeated 26—21, 26—19. These games completed the 1946 tournament. The viee-prcßidont of the centre, Mrs. P. Mann, who presented the trophies, stated it was with great pleasure that she addressed all the competitors, including many visitors. She complimented the players on their standard of play and for the hard games. She also expressed appreciation of the services of Mrs. E. Derbyshire, who acted as tournament manager, saying that the tournament had been conducted in an excellent manner.
Mrs. Derbyshire thanked the players for their assistance throughout the tournament. It was by their co-operation that it had been made a success. On behalf of the visitors, Mrs. E. Munro, Hastings, thanked the hosts for a most enjoyable stay and tournament and stated that the visitors were unanimous in voicing their appreciation of the enjoyable time extended to them. Cups were won as follows: Cenfrc Cup A Championship Singles.—Mrs. H. Gilmer; runner-up, Mrs. E. Munro. A Handicap Singles.—Mrs. E. Munro, Kin Ton; runner-up, Mrs. R. L. Gray, Turanga. Handicap Doubles.—Mrs. Charles and Mr. Rigby, Hastings: runners-up, Mrs. Munro and Mrs. Graham, Kia Toa. Derbyshire Cup B Championship.—Mrs. K. Wilson, Herttaunga; runner-up, Mrs. W. Reddell, Turanga. B Handicap Singles.—Mrs. I. Charles, Hastings ; runner-lip, Mrs. R, Wilson. Heretaunga. Cox Cup Open Doubles.—Mesdamcs Barnard and Donnelly, Turanga; runners-up, Mesdamcs Gray and Bayliss, Turanga.
