RAILWAYMEN’S PROSPECT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 17.

A five-day 40-hour working week for railwaymen is to be introduced as soon as possible, according to advice received by Auckland officials from the general manager, of railways, Mr. Sawers.

Workers’ organisations affected by the decision are the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Railway Officers’ Institute, the Engineers, Firemens and Cleaners' Association, and the Railway Tradesmen’s Association.

Mr. Sawers asked for information regarding the extra staff made necessary by the adoption of a five-dav roster.
