LINER MONTEREY
VOYAGE TO DOMINIONS
REDUCING WAITING LIST (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 18.
Originally scheduled to sail last Wednesday for Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane, the Matson liner Monterey will now not leave San Francisco until January 26. She is expected here about February 9.
The Monterey is still a troopship operating under the United States war shipping administration, but a specie, voyage has been planned to educe the large waiting list of prospective travellers to the Dominion and Australia, She will have 800 passengers, a large proportion being American servicemen anxious to rejoin theii wives in Australia and New Zealand and the Canadian wives of Dominion and Commonwealth servicemen. Three hundred of the passengers will disembark at Auckland. About 300 berths are expected to be available for passengers wishing to travel between Auckland and Sydney. Ships leaving Wellington, however, have considerably reduced their waiting list and so far only about GO persons have sought passages. The Auckland agents’ office has been inundated by hundreds of people requiring berths to the United States, but it is not known yet whether the Monterey will take passengers back or proceed to Manila to pick up American servicemen.
