FARMER’S OFFENCE
PRIVATELY-OWNED PLANE (P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Dec. 18.
When James Robert Franklin, farmer, Porangahau, flew his privately-owned plane from a farm landing field to Palmerston North he did so without having had the machine certificated as airworthy and also without holding a current pilot's license. In the Magistrate’s Court he was fined £25 for the first offence and £5 on the second.
Franklin’s explanation was that he flew the machine to Palmerston North in order to get it certificated, and had to do three hours’ flying before he could get his pilot's license renewed. He could have got an engineer to visit the farm, but that was too slow a method.
