SOCIALIST EVOLUTION

CZECHOSLOVAK POLICY

BENES ANALYSES TREND (9 a.m.) PRAGUE, Dec. 17. The President of Czechoslovakia, Dr. Benes, expressed the opinion in a speech that there would be a gradual strengthening of Russian co-operation with the other Powers. He added that there were Communists who defended the proletariat’s temporary dictatorship, but he believed it was unnecessary in the great majority of countries. The Russian Communists themselves acknowledged that the transformation from a liberal democracy to socialising democracy could coine gradually by means of reasonable evolution. Dr. Benes prophesied that this view would gradually be accepted through the gradual co-operation of Russia with the rest of the world, which would be a connecting link for the Great Powers’ permanent co-operation.
