FRANCE URGES BREAK
RELATIONS WITH SPAIN
NOTE'TO BRITAIN AND U.S. Oam ) PARIS. Dec. 16. The disclosures at the Nuremberg war crimes trial concerning General franco’s complicity with Hitler influenced the French Government’s note io Britain and America regarding relations with Spain, says a Reuter's correspondent.
Usually reliable sources state that die Note consisted of two main parts. i n view of Franco’s complicity Hitler, the French Government telt it desirable and necessary that relations with Spain should be broken off. The Government did not wish to act unilaterally and, therefore, requested .the British and American views. Secondly, the Note raised the question of recognising the Spanish shadow Cabinet of Rejwiblican exiles, headed by Dr. Jose Giral. The correspondent adds that the French Foreign Office stated that the Note was dispatched after prolonged and insistent pressure by the press, and was not sent to Russia a s Russia was not maintaining diplomatic relations with Spain.
