Pam Hill, Valeric Veal, Masters Tony and Garry Meria. ’’MODERN MOTHERCKAKT” At a meeting of the Dominion council of the Plunket Society, which has just concluded in Wellington, reference was made to the society’s new oflicinl handbook, “Modern Mothcrcraft,” which has been prepared by the society’s medical and nursing advisers. Members of the council stated that branches were eagerly awaiting the publication of the book, which will be in the hands of the booksellers within the next few weeks. The council expressed gratification at this fine piece of work carried out by the professional advisers, who have presented in very attractive form, for the guidance of parents, the most up-to-date information regarding the care of babies and pre-school children and the needs of expectant and nursing mothers. FAREWELL PARTY Shaded hydrangeas and carnations were artistically arranged by Mrs. E. Hamilton Irvine at her home in Riverside road yesterday afternoon, when she gave a delightful bridge ten for Mrs. Hugh Cameron, who is •unking her future Home in Hawke's Bay. The hostess was wearing a graceful frock of powder blue cloque. Her daughter. Miss June Irvine, choso a becoming frock of Swiss romaine printed in a floral design in hydrangea tonings. An attractive black frock accented with a wide multi-coloured waist band was worn by Mrs. Barry Irvine, Tauranga, a house guest. Mrs. Cameron looked smart in a frock of brown and buff floral sheer atid a hat of natural straw.

Among the guests were Mesdames J. A. Mncleod, P. Pittar. E. Adair, D. B. Barry, P. A. Pettit, G. I. Parker, A. S. Muir, L. T. Burnard; Misses R. Scott, M. Barker and O. Crawford. FINALE TO WEDDING

Over 100 guests were invited to the delightful dance given by Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Humphreys, Ngatapa, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Brownlie, “Midelney,” on Saturday night as a finale to the Barker—Witters wedding. Richly-tinted gladioli and sweet peas were chosen for the adornment of the drawingroom, and roses shed their fragrance in the sitting-room. The ballroom looked inviting with its artistic decorations of delicate greenery. Supper was served in the dining-room, pink carnations being used with charming effect in the decoration of the table. Miss Lena Ruru’s orchestra was responsible for the music, and extras were contributed by the hostess. Miss V. Williams, and Mr. R. E. Humphreys (piano accordian). Mrs. Humphreys was wearing ait elegant black frock with a coatee to match appHqued in gold in a brilliantly-tinted floral design. Her daughter, Miss Diana Humphreys, looked attractive in a frock of pastel blue silk linen patterned in gaily coloured flowers. Mrs. Brownlie wore a smart frock of black lace accented with a shoulder spray of scarlet flowers.

Miss Prue Wanklyn, Christchurch, a house guest, chose a becoming frock of cream faille printed in a vivid floral design.

CHRISTMAS PARTY On Saturday afternoon Miss Winifred Lysnar was hostess at a delightful Christmas party, held at her home in Stout street, for the entertainment of the members of the Gisborne Social Club for the Blind.

Members and friends were welcomed in a happy manner by the president of the club, Mr. F. Butler.

Artistic decorations of Christmas lilies and carnations, intemingled with gypsophila, enhanced the genial atmosphere of the occasion.

A varied programme was presented under '.he direction of Mrs. Elliott, tvho also acted as accompanist. Vocal solos were contributed by Mrs. I. Morrow, Mrs. McKenzie and the Rev. B. M. Tasker; Mr. and Mrs. F. Butlor "rid Mi'b. Morrow were heard in a vocal trio, • I Mieses M. Forge and M. Sellman in a vocal duet. A violin solo was given by Mrs. fi. Moore, a pianoforte number by Misß M. •Sellman, an elocutionary item by Mrs. 11. Bacon, a monologue by Miss .T. Cruiclcshanks and n "saw” solo by Mr. Butler. The singing of Christmas carols and of songs in vogue many years ago also was enjoyed. A delicious afternoon tea was served, and the ceremony of cutting the handsome Christmas cake was performed by Mrs. Butler, wife of *ho president. The attractively decorated Christmas tree was described to the members by Mr. Butler, and Inter Mrs. Butler and Mrs. F. H. Forge, wife of the secretary, distributed the gifts. Shoulder sprays and buttonholes, the artistic work of Misses M. Forge and M. Sellman, also were handed to the members. Suitable acknowledgment of Miss Lysnar’s hospitality was made by Mr. Bailor.
