VARLEY'S TEAM GOES WELL
An exhibition of stylish rowing was given by the team stroked by M. Varicy when it won both its races in tho first series of trial fours conducted this season by tho Poverty Bay Rowing Club on the Taruhoru course on Saturday afternoon. Results:— First Round.—M. Varicy, stroke, R. Patty, W. Phillips, A. Sinton beat J. Barrett, stroke, D. Glass, 0. Hobcroft, A. Foster by two lengths. Second Round.—D. Mcnzies, stroke, (.». Owen, B. Knebel, R. Clayton bent I. MeCnllum, stroke, T. Reid. B. Sloan, L. Dennis by 1J lengths; M. Vniiey’s crow beat W. McLeod (sul). \V. Prince), stroke, F. Green, J. Fitzmuuricn, G. Smytho by three lengths. ' Tho final will bo rowed on the Taruhoru River at s.lf> p.m. on Tuesday, when Valley’s four will meet that of Mcnzies. Nominations for tho second trials are now being called ami will close on Saturday. Crews will be selected before Christmas and the ovonts will be rowed off early in the, new year.
A trophy for the most improved rower has been donated by Mr. J. Barrett for competition within the club.
