PERMIT SYSTEM GOES

SHOT-GUN CARTRIDGES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 26. "With the cessation of hostilities I am now pleased to state that the present and future supply position is such that it is no longer necessary to continue with the existing permit system for shot-gun cartridges and .22 ammunition and henceforth all users may obtain their requirements from local retailers without the necessity of obtaining a permit from the inspector of .stock,” said the Minister of Agriculture, the 1-lon. B, Roberts, last night. The Minister said that during the war years supplies of shot-gun cartridges and 22 ammunition for civilian use were severely limited and the permit system was instituted to ensure that these supplies were utilised for the destruction of pests likely to affect primary production. Mr. Roberts said it would be appreciated that the manufacturers might be unable to supply immediately either the many brands or various gauges of shot-gun cartridges previously on the market, but this would be rectified in due course as the change-over to peacetime production progressed. Mr. Roberts expressed his appreciation to the trade generally and to the users of ammunition for their co-opera-tion in,, the successful functioning of the permit system, the introduction of which was necessitated on the grounds of public interest.
