AMENDED BUDGET

CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE PROPOSED £225 7 INCREASE Opposition to the Associated Chambers of Commerce’s proposal to pass an amended budget at the conference next week involving an increase of £2257 will be voiced by the Napier representative delegated to attend the conference and who will act for both the Napier and the Gisborne Chambers of Commerce. A communication from the Associated Chambers of Commerce advising the chamber of the proposal came before the meeting of the Gisborne chamber last night. The suggestion was to provide additional staff and accommodation. This would include additional expenditure of £2257 on top of the £3590 already budgeted. The total sum last year was £3950. The secretary, Mr. M. J. White, remarked that the associated body was intending to launch out in a big way with increases in staff and office accommodation. The 1945-46 fee the Gisborne chamber was expected to pay was £77, and with the proposed extra levy the amount would be £lO6. The previous year £47 was paid, and the year before £49. Mr. White added that if the amendment to the budget was approved, the local subscription rate would have to be revised. Members expressed their disapproval of the proposed action and authorised the Napier delegate to oppose the action.
