GEN. HOMMA FOR TRIAL
PHILIPPINES ATROCITIES (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 23. The New York Daily News correspondent in Manila says it is announced that Lieutenant-General Maraharu Homma and not General Yamashita was commander of the Japanese troops which captured Bataan and Corregidor. General Homma will be tried at Manila on
November 1 for most of the atrocities, Including the notorious Bataan "death inarch” which was formerly attributed to General Yamashita, whose trial begins on October 29. General Homma was commander in the Philippines for the first six months of 1942. General Marshall, United States Chief of Staff, previously reported that General Yamashita was in command in that period.
