SOUTH ISLAND CLAIMS
LOCAL BODIES CONFER (P.A.) DUNEDIN, Oct. 25. One hundred delegates assembled yesterday for the opening of the annual conference of the South Island Local Bodies' Association. The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. Andrews, presided. The agenda includes 50 remits, most of which press the industrial and tourist claims of the South Island. In welcoming the delegates, the Mayor of Dunedin, Mr. D. C. Cameron, said that the South Island must keep on demanding its rights, which had not been granted in the past by the authorities. The parochial attitude which it was stated had been adopted by the tourist committee set up by the Government was attacked by several speakers. It was decided to press for at least onethird representation of the South Island personnel on the committee.
