AGAIN SUCCESSFUL
GISBORNE DEBATERS VISIT TO NAPIER A party of members of the -Gisborne Junior National Club journeyed to Napier last week-end and were entertained by the club’s counterpart in that town. The principal attraction during the visit was the holding of two debating competitions. The Gisborne speakers had looked forward with interest to the contest as the club successfully participated in a similar competition earlier this year and it was expected that Napier on this occasion would fight hard to gain the honours. However, the Gisborne orators managed to outclass their opponents in both debates, securing a good margin of points over Napier. They established superior arguments in a good style and presented their side with confidence and with clear and faultless diction. In both instances their wins were well merited. On the question "Does Accumulation of Wealth Denote Success in Life,’ the visitors successfully took the negative side. The speakers were Miss Prudence Gregory and Mr. J. Cranswick. The second debate was on the subject: “Taxpayers of the Age of 1C Should be Given Adult Status.” Gisborne presented the argument for the negative and were again successful, the orators being Miss Jocelyn Gregory and Mr. E. W. Lett.
