400 MEN STRIKE
SYDNEY POWER HOUSE RATIONING POSSIBLE INDUSTRIES AND HOMES (10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 4. Nearly 400 maintenance men at the Bunnerong power station, Sydney's main source of electricity supply, went on strike yesterday following the suspension of 60 who had refused to accent shift work. As a consequence drastic rationing of electricity is threatened, involving a total prohibition of the use of power by certain large industrial and commercial undertakings as well as serious restrictions to householders and other consumers. The deputy-general manager of the County Council, Mr. G. S. Boyd, said that preparations had been made to meet the emergency and the plant would he kept working as efficiently as possible. “The position is ominous and if certain develonrrents take place drastic rationing will be inevitable,” he added.
