SUNK IN PACIFIC

10,000-TQN JAP. CRUISER SUBMARINES’ VICTIMS (10 a.m.) RUGBY, July 2. The British submarine H.M.S. Trenchant, operating in the south-wes. Pacific, has sunk a Japanese cruiser of the Haguro class. The Haguro class comprises four cruisers which have standard displacements of 10,000 tons and a complement of G 92 men. Their main armament consists of 10 Bin. guns.

This achievement brings the Trenchant into the news for the first time. One of the newest British submarines, she belongs to a class of just over 1000 tons displacement, like the Trident and many another famous vessel.

The Trenchant was operating under American control in the south-west Pacific.

American submarines in Far Eastern waters also sank a gunboat, a converted escort vessel, four mediumsized merchant ships, a large tanker, two small merchant ships, and a small tanker.
