DEEDS LIVE IN HISTORY

30TH ANNIVERSARY REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 24, “Anzac Day is the one _ day of national commemoration which Australia and New Zealand hold _in common,” said the Australian High Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr. 1. G. de L. d’Alton, in a statement. "On this day our thoughts turn with pride to those gallant Australian and New Zealand soldiers who landed under a hail of fire at Anzac Cove exactly 30 years ago. Their deeds will live in the history of our two countries and also in the history of war. A new name was given to the world as an inspiration of dauntless endeavour in the face of heavy odds. “Thirty years on we pav homage to the deeds of these men who were our fathers and brothers. Their example has been an insniration to the sons who succeeded them on the battlefields of the present war. “Besides being the thirtieth anni»versary of Anzac Day, this year has yet another significance: it is the day on which representatives of the United Nations are meeting together in San Francisco to plan a new era of international peace. Bitter experience proved that without some machinery for 'the settlement and prevention of disputes the world will he doomed to a series of even more disastrous wars. “In peace as well as ifi war Australia and New Zealand have responsibilities and obligations. We owe it to our fighting men and to the oeoples of the world who have striven so hard and suffered so much to provide goodwill and enthusiasm, without which a better world cannot be founded. “Anzac Day. therefore, is this year a day of remembrance and a day of hone. We revere the memory of the gallant Australian and -New Zealand fighting men of two World Wars. On every bntllei’ront our soldiers, sailors and airmen have fought with bravery 'md suffered terrible losses. So that their sacrifices may not be in vain, we look to the future, resolved to play our nnrt in building the peace for which they fought.”
