NEW MOTUHORA SERVICE

Sir.— The Gisborne branch of the Labour Party was not particularly interested as to who would run the passenger service to Mofii. if the needs of the residents in the outlying districts were met. We .were, however, most interested in the railways goods service, as under the system that has operated for some time mist, we felt that the dairy farmers who were being served by the railways were being penalised inasmuch as the late arrival of the train on its return from Motuhora. meant that the cream arrived at the factory too late to be treated that day, and on account of its condition next day, it was classed a grade lower. This entailed’ a considerable monetary loss to the producers. As regards the road passenger service when the rail connection with Auckland is effected the road service to Mntu will not be needed; in fact, it would not be economical to run two parallel services, ami the returned soldier who was rehabilitated bv private enterprise would again be in need of assistance.—PAßT* MEMBER.
