U.S. AIR BASES LOST
EASTERN CHINA AREA JAP. STRATEGY SUCCEEDS CHUNGKING, Feb. 7. Major-General C. Chennault, commander of the U.S. Air Forces in China, announced that all American air force bases in east China have been abandoned. He explained that Japanese strategy had compelled the ,14th Air Force to reduce operations. Henceforth, the bombers based .on Luzon will sweep the China Sea. The 14th Air Force will concentrate on Japanese operations and installations in China's interior and also give air cover for the Stilwell Road arid protection for the pipe-line into China.
