LONDON OBSERVANCE

NEW ZEALAND DAY SPECIAL CHURCH SERVICE (Special Correspondent.) NEW YORK. Feb. (i. New Zealand Day was observed in London bv a service in St. Mary Woonoth in Lombard' street, where the Rev. W. Holland, the rector, and brother of the Bishop of Wellington, preached tlfte sermon. Many New Zealanders were later entertained at tea by the Worshipful Company of Girdlers. This is the traditional sequel to the church service on New Zealand Day. but unfortunately the Girdlers’ Hall had been damaged by bombs. The gathering was held in the hall of the Company of Vintners, another ancient London company which once entertained five kings—of England, Scotland. France, Denmark and Cyprus. The master of tfie Girdlers’ Company paid a tribute to New Zealand’s war effort, particularly her fighting men.
