“CONVERTED” CAR

POLICE PATROL ARREST i p.A.I WELLINGTON, Jan. 5. The police patrol car. introduced by the new Police Commissioner two months ago and which keeps constant touch all night and every night with various police stations in Wellington, sot its first mention in the Police Court to-day. Suspicions had been aroused early this morning by a car with a fiat tyre, and when this car stopped by the railway station the patrol also stopped and asked a few questions. The car was thus recovered before even a complaint had been lodged and. incidentally. it was the third the patrol had recovered before the owner knew of his loss.

The case to-day concerned soldier. Harold Eugene Matheson. aged 24, who was charged with unlawful conversion. The accused, it was stated, had picked up a male friend and they had driven about the city for some time. The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon and placed in charge of the military. "Hie amount of the damage done. £7. is to be deducted from his military pay.
