77 MEN ARRESTED
AUCKLAND POLICE RAID (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 6.
Seventy-seven arrests were made when the Auckland police staged one of the biggest raids for some years last evening. Detectives and plainclothes constables went to a threestorey building in Durham street, one party entering by the front door and a second pnrtv climbing over the roof and gaining entry by breaking windows on the first floor. Games were in progress when the police made their surprise entry. At a special court sitting held at the police station at 1 o'clock this morning, Larry Lasher was charged with using (lie premises as a common gaming house.
