TIMELY RESCUE
CHILD'S PLUCKY ACT
The plucky action of an eight-year-old Maori girl. Rebecca Rare, was responsible for the rescue of a small boy who got into difficulties while bathing at the Kaiti Beach oh Thursday. Rebecca, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Rare. Kaiti Beach, only learned to swim this season. The two Children were members of a party which included two adults, neither of whom could swim. They were bathing in a pool when the boy, aged 4, got out of liis depth and disappeared. He struggled to the surface several times and was again sinking when Rebecca went to his aid.
Grasping the child as he came to the surface, she swam ashore, using only one arm to bring him to safety.
