BLOCKED BY SLIP

NEW PLYMOUTH LINE (P.A.) HAWERA. Jan. 4. A slio on the New Plymouth-Wel-lington line two miles south of Moko completely blocked north-south rail traffic to-day. The south-bound express, with 300 passengers, left Hawera at . 10.55 o’clock this morning about 40 minute's late and the passengers had to walk across the slip to a special train which had been sent up from Wanganui. The luggage was conveyed by lorry. It • is expected that the line will take six to seven hours to clear, possibly in time for the up-bound express from Wellington, which is normally due to arrive at Hawera at 0 o’clock. The line is blocked in a cutting which runs through a gorge, and the slip followed a heavy, continuous downpour throughout the night, a north-bound goods train ran into the slip at 7.45 a.m. to-day, but was undamaged.
