POCKETS OF GERMANS EIGHTH ARMY FRONT SEN IO RIVER MOVES (10 am) LONDON, Jan. 3 An Allied Headquarters communique from Italy reports that Eighth Army infantry and tanks, north-wes of Ravenna, gained ground between the Senio River and Fossevecchie against strong resistance. Active patrolling continues on the tutn Army front. Allied Aircraft Activity The Tactical Air Force was out in considerable strength again in concentrated attacks against enemy communications, mainly in the north-west area of the Po Valley, and a laigo variety of targets in the battle area in Italy, states an Allied 'Headquarters communique. The targets included bridges, railways, enemyoccupied buildings, rail and road transport, guns and defended positions. Cuts were effected on main rail routes, and two trains were strafed.

Coastal aircraft attacked shipping in the Gulf of Genoa, and bombed an enemy barracks on the Italian Riviera. On the night of January 1, light bombers and Intruder aircraft attacked enemy road and rail transport in Northern Italy. One of our aircraft is missing from these operations.
