TRAPPED IN BUDAPEST LANDINGS (9 a.m.) LONDON. Jan. 3 The Germans are making desperate efforts to rescue 1 the commander o. the besieged Budapest garrison, says the Daily Express Moscow correspondent. He is the S.S. General Otto Winckleman, who has been in command of the Nazi garrison there since the German occupation of the city last March. He is believed to be trapped on Margaret Island, a Budapest pleasure resort on the Danube. On Monday three slow German planes attempted landings on the island to rescue him. Each plane was shot down by Russian fighters.
