Mrs. C. A. Bull, Nuhaka, is staying with Mrs. C. B. Bull, Mangapapa. Pilot Officer P. Reynolds and Mrs. Reynolds are at present the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Reynolds, Ormond. Mr. Sydney Greenbie, special assistant to the American Minister in New Zealand, and head representative of the. U.S. Office of War Information for the Dominion, and Mrs. Greenbie have filled several lecture engagements and have also been entertained informally during their brief visit to Gisborne. On Tuesday Mrs. Greenbie was. the chief guest at a small luncheon party given* by Mrs. N. H. Bull at Almadale Guest House, Fitzherbert street. ENGAGEMENT Norris—Howell. —Mr. and Mrs. P. Hov.vll, Paraparaumu, Wellington, %vish to announce the engagement of their second daughter, Zelnie Nell, to Driver William Henry, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Norris, Grey street. Gisborne, ex-Socond N.Z.E.F. BRIDE-ELECT ENTERTAINED A delightful evening was spent on Friday at the home of Mrs. P. Bowker, Russell street, in honour of Miss Norma Henderson, whose marriage to Mr. J. Quinn is to take place shortly. Community singing and games were enjoyed, and after supper the gift pare Ms were opened by the bride-elect, assisted by her chief bridesmaid, Miss G. Henderson. The hostess was wearing a dusky pink model frock, while navy and rod floral silk was worn by the guest of honour. Among those present were Mrs. W. D. Armstrong; Misses E. Fyson, R. Nigro, P. McDermott, V; Maseman, G. Henderson. A. Thomson, V. Haley, H. Tamm and E. McKeague. P.B. NURSES’ ASSOCIATION The Poverty Bay branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association held a social evening in the National Club rooms on Monday, when the report and balance sheet for the year were presented. - Congratulations were extended to Miss R. E. Preston, hon. treasurer, for the satisfactory state of the finances. The rooms had been artistically decorated with carnations and irises by Mesdames M. Ball arid B. Ogilvy. - Miss A. J. North, chief guest of the evening, was presented with a sheaf of gladioli by Mrs. Mills. Shoulder sprays were also presented to Miss J. I. Martin and Mesdames H. H. Dods and T. W. Lighton. Much appreciated musical nurribei’s were-provided:by Mrs. Dods. vocal, and Mr. and Mrs. Lighton, violin and piano. Supper was served. “wbRKBASKET” EVENING The home of Miss Vera Maseman, Disraeli street, was the scene of a very happy party on Tuesday night, when friends gathered to wish “every happiness” to Miss Norma Henderson, whose marriage to Mr. Joe Quinn takes place this month. The guest of honour looked charming in a frock of Canadian sink patterned in lemon and brown toriinge. Several enjoyable games were played, and Mrs. J. English and Misses N. Henderson, R. Nigro, E. Fyson and P. McDermott emerged the winners. After supper Miss Henderson, assisted by her bridesmaid-elect, Miss G. Hendonon', opened the parcels and revealed an. assortment of useful gifts for her “workbasket.” Miss Henderson suitably replied. Among those present were Mesdames J. English and O. Pinching; Misses G. Henderson, D. Frazer,. R. Bignell, L. and N. Mj soman, P. McDermott, E. Fyson, R. Nigro, and J. Johnson. TARUHERU SOCIAL CLUB On Tuesday night Mr. P. Robertson was responsible for the supervision of play at the fortnightly progressive 500 party sponsored by the T-aruherii Ladies’ Social Club at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Biggar, Cameron road. Eleven tables were engaged and Mrs. Parkinson and Mr. J. Davis emerged the winners, other prizes being handed to Miss M. Dunn and Mr. T. Brown, Makaxnka. Miss Shirley Ovenden, whose marriage to Mr. It. C. Wallace will take place • shortly was the guest of honour, and during the evening Mrs. A. McColl asked her to accept a gift bearing the good wishes of the members of the club. Suitable acknowledgment was made bj the recipient. The loyal toast was proposed by Mr. Biggar, who also proposed the health of Miss Ovenden, to whom musical honours, with Mrs. E. Roe at the piano, were accorded. After supper dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr. J. Davis. SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY The funds of St. .John’s Anglican Ladies’ Guild benefited as the result of a successful garden party conducted by the members on Tuesday afternoon as a* finale to the year’s activities. The function was held, at the home of Mrs. C. H. Ferris, Hospital road, and the spacious grounds presented an animated scene. Games and competitions were entered into with enthusiasm, and indoor community singing and pianoforte numbers were arranged for the entertainment of the guests. During the afternoon the president of the guild, Mrs. A. V. Clare, asked Mrs. Smillie, an old member, to accept a bouquet to mark the occasion of her birthday. The stall-holders included Mesdames Brewster and E. Craw forth* produce and small goods: Mrs. Bennett and Mr. Williams, amusements; Mrs. Kerr, novelties, iij the form of calenders made by Miss L. Trowel!. Afternoon tea was served under the tiirec-, tion of Mesdames Burch, McNab, Mitchell and Miss H. Watkins. The thanks of the guild for the use of her home were conveyed to Mrs. Ferris by Canon A. F. Hall. Among the guests were Canon and Mrs. A. F. Hall and the Rev. and Mrs. F. Midcllebrook.
