APPLE CROP DAMAGED (P.A.) NELSON, Dec. 7. Hailstorms in parts of the Nelson fruit-growing districts yesterday caused damage to the apple crop in the Richmond. Stoke, Tahunanui and Mariri areas. 11, is estimated that orchards in •the track' of the storm will lose from 25 to 50 tier cent, of their crop. At Richmond there were 4in of. hail on the ground. A light frost last night was not heavy enough to cause damage to tobacco or other tender crops in the country districts, but outside tomatoes in the' city were damaged in some localities. Officials of the Agricultural Department estimate that the fruit crop will be lighter than last year, when 990.000 cases were marketed.
