LATE DR. TEMPLE EX-PRIMATE'S TRIBUTE (P.A.) HASTINGS, Oct. 30 “The great thing about the life of Dr. Temple is that he has laid the foundations for something well, worthwhile in the world and upon which others can build.” stated Archbishop Averill, former Primate of New Zealand, this morning in Hastings when paying a tribute to the late Archbishop of Canterbury. Archbishop Averill had pleasant associations with Dr, Temple for He was ordained by Dr. Temple’s father. “I think Dr. Temple was a man with a brain as powerful as that of any man living to-day,” stated Dr. Averill. “He has made some wonderful contributions in so many ways, hot only for the welfare of the church, but tor the welfare of the community through the church. It seems tragic that he should be lost now when so many looked forward to his taking a leading place in the post-war settlement.”

Archbishop Averill added that Dr. ' Temple had not only left behind him his wonderful writings, but a great tradition. He had done more than any other to bring about close cooperation between the various units of the church.

In addition, he was trusted by rill the other churches, said Dr Averill. They recognised his great ability and ever -willingness to co-operate, and all accepted him as a great leader in t-ocial reconstruction. The people ol all" nationalities had great confidence and trust in him and looked to him for great things
