Details of the manner in which Corporal ,L. (Clarrie) Roderick, a former Gisborne boy, met his death in act! 8 on April 5 have reached his auiu. Mrs. E. Roderick. Gisborne. Corporai Roderick, who was a prisoner of wai in Italy for two and a-halt years escaped and was leading a band a rebels in Italy when lie was shot and killed by Fascists at Susso D'Ombrone, near Grosseto. He was buried in that locality. Corporal Roderick was born in Gisborne in September 1920, and was the fifth son of Mr. anc’ Mrs. G. Roderick. He was a prominent boxei and won the First Echelon N.Z.E.F light-weight championship, and also represented the New Zealand boxine team against the A.I.F. team. Cortf oral Roderick went overseas with the Divisional Cavalry. He served in the initial group of the Long Range Patrol, later known as the Long Range Desert Group.
