PRESIDENT RESIGNS
STRIKE IN SALVADOR ECHO OF REBELS’ FATE (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 9. President Maximiliano Martinez, of El Salvador, has resigned as a result of a situation arising from a general strike, says the Associated Press President Martinez has been in office for 13 years. His present six-year term expires next November. The New York Times correspondent at Panama says that aeroplanes are forbidden to land in El Salvador. All business houses in San Salvador are closed as a protest against the execution of Dr. Arturo Romero, leader of the abortive revolt against President Martinez last April. The rebels said that executions are occurring daily.
