COLOGNE BOMB HAVOC
100 ft .ACRES WIPED OUT
FACTORIES & RAILWAYS (British Official Wireless.) (11 a.m.) RUGBY, July 18. At least 1000 acres were devastated in Cologne on June 28 and much damage has been done to submarine engine works. So much smoke hung over the city after the raids on June 28 and July 3 that an interpretation of the photographs was difficult Reconnaissance a week after the raids revealed that the fires were still burning, many important, factories were badly damaged and alsc railways and barracks. The air assault on Germany and the occupied countries has been aimed at dislocating traffic and the damage to the factories is likely to cause a bottleneck in the production of replacements. Reports from France indicate that the Germans are experiencing seriou; transport difficulties because replacement difficulties caused W attacks on trains and coal shortages.
