SIR PATRICK DUNCAN
S. AFRICAN GOVERNOR (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (9 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, July 13. The death occurred at the weekend of Sir Patrick Duncan, P.C., G.C.M.G., C.M.G.. K.C.; and LL.D., Governor-Geneial -of the Union of South Africa since 1937. Sir Patrick' Biincan was born in 1870 and was a son of Mr John Duncan. of Banffshire. After going to Oxford he entered the Civil Service in 1894, and''Was private secretary to Sir Alfred Milner. lie was Treasurer ox the Transvaal' in 1901, and Colonial Secretary from 1903 to 190(i. In 190 G he "was" acting 'LieutenantGovernor and in 1933 he became Minister of Mines. Previously he held the Union portfolios of the Interior, Public Health and Education. He was a barrister cf the Inner Temple and an 'Advocate Of ’the Supreme Court of South Africa.
