X-ray For Schools The Hawke’s Bay Education Board yesterday decided to approach the Hawke’s Bay, Dannevirke. Wairoa, Cook, and Waiapu hospital boards with a view to the establishment, o f .ui X-ray service for school children.

It had been intended that a deputation of business men • should approach the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, this evening with a request that he allow himself to be nominated for selection as the National Party candidate for the Gisborne seat. Mr. Bull has intimated, however, that he is not prepared to consider the request and that, in the circumstances,- a deputation could serve no useful purpose. Nutrition Course Voluntary aids throughout New Zealand are being'given the benefit of a special course in nutrition which has been arranged by Miss M. Frengley, of the Health Department, and is open to members of the St. John Ambulance and New Zealand Red Cross. Owing to the large numbers enrolling, two classes have been formed, one at the High School under Miss' Baskerville and the other at the Intermediate School under Miss Humphreys. The instruction is proving of great value and interest, and is to be followed next year bv a more advanced course. New Potato Crops Arrangements arc being made to maintain the large area of potatoes grown in the Gisborne district last season. It has been estimated that 338 acres of potatoes were grown in the Gisborne district last season, and at least 325 acres are required during the coming season. Potatoes may be grown under contract, during the coming season, the New Zealand Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants' Association having been asked to further the scheme of contract growing throughout the Dominion. The president of the federation, Mr. J. R. Virtue, and the secretary, Mr. H. B. Martin, both of Wellington, were in the district during the week, and discussed the scheme with representatives of Gisborne firms, who will be asked to outline the proposals to a meeting of growers to be held next Friday.
