GENERAL ELECTION
NATIONAL CANDIDATES FIRST 15 ANNOUNCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 9. The following first official list of candidates to contest seats at the general election has been issued by the Dominion' headquarters of the National Party:— Auckland East: Mr. H. T. Merritt, an Auckland businessman. Auckland Suburbs: Mr. T. A. Bishop, a farmer, member of the Auckland Harbour Board, and a R.S.A. official. Eden: Lieutenant-Colonel W. 11. Fortune, new serving overseas, a member of the Auckland City Coun ■ oil and Education Board.
Onehunga: Mr. John Park, architect. Mayor of Onehunga. Roskill: Captain R. G. McElroy. a barrister, arid Auckland City councillor, now at the staff college" Napier: Mr. Moms Spence, accountant and Napier Borough councillor.
Pahiatua: Mr. Keith Holyoake, a farmer and former M.P. for Motueka. Egmont: Mr. E. B. Corbett, a farmer and a director of the Oxford Dairy Company, and member of local bodies. Wairarapa: Mr. J. J. Maher, a farmer, chairman of the Wellington Primary Production Council. ITawke’s Bay: Mr. E. N. Pryor, a farmer and former newspaper executive.
Pnlca: Mr. W. A. Sheal. a farmer, former W-E.A. lecturer, and has held numerous public positions. Wellington East: Mr. L. T. .Jacobsen, a Wellington businessman and prominent welfare worker.
Hamilton: Mr. Frank Findlay, master baker, chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, and Deputy Mayor of Riccarton: Mr.’ J. T. Watts a Christchurch lawyer.
Invercargill: Lieutenant-Colonel W Bell chairman bf the Southland 'High Schools Boards and Home Guard commander;
