SAVING OF SHIP
ENGINEER DECORATED (Special Correspondent.) LONDON, July 7 Mr. G. A. McGregor, of Auckland, chief engineer, has been awarded the 0.8. E. for his work after a merchantman was torpedoed when 220 miles from land. Two holds were flooded, but the captain and crew brought her to port safely. The crew were dis--erpbarkqd after the torpedoing, but next day Captain F. S. Hamilton, who received the C.8.E., and senior officers, including Mr. McGregor, and the' nucleus bf a crew steamed the ship into port. There a pad was made frofti timber sawn from trees on the shore which was placed over the huge rent in the ship’s side. The ship then sailed' to a British port.
