U.S. AID TO CHINA
PLEDGES BEING MET WASHINGTON, July 7. I A special message to the people of China from President Roosevelt was broadcast to-day to Chungking. President Roosevelt referred to “the heroic defence of your soil under the leadership of the great Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek,” and sent “the heartfelt greetings of your partner?, the'people of the United States.” The message 1 added:' “It is good to know that 'the hopes and promises I expressed on former occasions are all being borne out to-day.” 'Then followed recorded excerpts of relevant speeches of the President since China and the United States “joined hands” —as President Roosevelt put it—in the war. Mr. Wendell Willki.e, who visited China last- year, also sent a'imeSshge, which was broadcast by the United States Office of War Information to the people of China. \
