LAST MONTH'S FIGURES

With the exception of one station, the rainfall reports for last month from the East Const and Motu show a decrease compared with the rain for the corresponding period of last year. The reports also indicate that last month was the driest on the Coast lor some time. The Matarau station, Matakaoa County, reported a total fall for last month of ,56in., in comparison with 4.10 in, reported at the corresponding time Inst year. Rain fell on six days, whilst for March last year, 13 wet days were reported. The total fall from January 1 of this year is 12.66 in. The heaviest fall for one day reported from Matarau was ,23in. on March 10. From Rukuhanga station, Cape Runaway, ,40in. was reported for March as against 4.12 in. last year. The heaviest 24-hour fall was ,32iu. on March 7. The number of wet days last month was four, compared with 11 last year, and the total from Rukuhanga since the beginning of the year was 7,891 n. The wind was from a westerly quarter-on 27 (lays, including 23 days straight-out westerly. Ruangarehu station, Tokopiaru Bay, reported an increase in rainfall. March, 194?, had a fall of .66iu., whereas 3.37 in,. was reported last month. The heaviest 24-hour fall was on March 6, when 1,25 in. was recorded. The Ruangarehu total fail from January 1 until now is 12,5 in, The second driest month in the last 10 years was reported by Marumoko station, Motu. The-total fall last month was 1.24 in. and the fall for the same-period last year was 3.56 in. Rain fell on seven days, the heaviest 24-hour fall being ,38in, recorded on March 8. The fall from January Ito the end of last month totalled 9.99 in. Last month' Matawai had seven wet days, which yielded 3,64ip. of rain. ' The heaviest fall, 1.87 in., was on March 31. There were 17 wet days in March, 1942, with; a, total of 2.81 in. of rain.
