SUCCESSFUL SPORTS
TOLAGA BAY RAISES £6O
A most successful sports day was held recently on the Tolaga Bay Domain by the combined efforts of the sports committee and Home Guard. Horso events filled most ol the programme. A cafeteria and ice-cream stall, run by members of the W.W.S.A., proved popular. At a meeting held afterwards tho committee decided to give half the proceeds, £3O, to the rehabilitation scheme, while the remaining £3O was handed to the general patriotic fund. The W.W.S.A. also decided to hand the money from its stall, £24, to the rehabilitation fund. In view o£ the success of the day's effort it was decided to hold a similar sports meeting on Ea,ster Saturday. As a fitting conclusion to the sports the members of the W.W.S.A. held a dance in the Parish Hall in order to raise funds. The patriotic committee took the opportunity of entertaining four soldiers who were home on leave, Privates R. Lincoln, M. McNeil, O. Olson, and M. Lincoln. In the absence of Mr, F W. Shelton, Mr. W. If. Bradley wished the soldiers good luck, while Mr. J. McNeil presented each man with a gift from the men and women's patriotic committees, as well as a cheque from a local resident and the Maori people. Private Olson suitably replied, The music was supplied by Mrs. B. Lincoln, extras being played by Mrs. 0. Olson and Miss Leigh Kelly. A vocal item given by soldiers on leave was greatly enjoyed.
