Delayed news that her younger son, Lieutenant John Albert Thodo, aged 30, who was officially presumed lost when 11.M.A.5. Perth was sunk in the Java Sea battle a year ago, is now well in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp, has been received by Mrs.- \V. I. Thode, : Mount Eden, Auckland. The first intimation that Eioutcnat t. Thodo’s mother had of his safety was contained in a letter written by Mr. ft. Cnrv, of Perth, to the Aucklander’s wife in Svdney. A postal ballot is t.o be taken among members of the Gisborne Returned Services Association for the election of the committee for the coming year. There was only one nomination for each of the positions of president and vice-president. Lieu-tenant-Colonel R. F. Gambrill for the former post and Mr G. Bradley Smith Cor the latter.
