FIVE-HUNDRED PARTY The funds of the Tnruheru Ladios’ Social Club benefited as the result of a progressive five-hundred party arranged by Mrs. E. Crnwforih at her home in Ward street on Saturday night. Play was enjoyed at four tables, and honours were annexed by Mrs. E. Holden and Mr. Cratvforth, other prizes being awarded to Mrs. F. E. Ovendeu and Mr. - D. Wilson. The games were efficiently supervised by Mr. R. H. Biggnr. SOCIAL CLUB DANCE The services, including personnel of the U.S. Marine Corps, were represented at the successful weekly dance held by the Gisborne Railway and Roads Social Club in the Solvyn Hall on Tuesday night in support of the Navy candidate. Miss R. Dorf, in the queen cnrnivad campaign. Mrs. W. Thomson's orchestra supplied the music and extras were contributed by Miss Norma King. The excellent supper arrangements were, as usual, in the hands of a ladies' committee. CHEERY SURPRISE PARTY On Saturday night the home of Dr. W. .4. Bowie and Mrs. Bowie, Kaiti esplanade, was the scene of a cheery surprise party organised by Privates M. Pilling and If. Fleming, of the U.S. Marine Corps. Amusing games were entered into with enthusiasm and community singing, with Mrs. A. C. Coleman nt the piano, was enjoyed. A delicious supper was served by the hostess, who was assisted in the entertainment of the guests by Mrs. 11. Cameron Mrs. Bowie looked smart in n frock of blue cloque printed in n floral design in fusebia tonings. A becoming frock of black Swiss romaine was worn by Mrs. Cameron. FELLOWSHIP OF MARRIAGE GROUP Members of the Fellowship of Marriage Group attended a short service in Holy Trinity Church, conducted by Canon A. F. Hall, as a prelude to the monthly meeting of the group held in the committee room in the Parish Hail. Derby street, on Tuesday afternoon. Business was dealt with under the direction of Mrs. J. G. Nolan. Two interesting papers in connection with the campaign for Christian Order were rend by Mrs. Nolan and Mrs. R. Andrew, respectively, and later discussed. At the close of the meeting the members adjourned to the main hall and joined the Mothers’ Union at afternoon ten. MOTHERS’ UNION Members stood in silence ns a mark of respect to the late Deaconess Esther Brand at the opening of the monthly meeting of the Holy Trinity branch of the Mothers’ Union held in the Parish Hall, on Tuesday afternoon following a short service in the church, conducted by Canon A. F. Hall. Deaconess Brand, who was the founder nf the Holy Trinity branch of the Girls’ Anglican Bible Class Union, for eight years carried out the duties of parish deaconess and also acted as superintendent of Holy Trinity Sunday school. Several new members were welcomed by the enrolling member, Mrs. A. F. Hall, and n welcome was extended to Mrs. Brittain, a visitor from Whnkatane. The first of a series of addresses on the subject of Old Testament difficulties was giVen 'by' Cation Hall, who was warmly thanked. Arrangements were made for the staffing of the women's rest -room,- for a period in June.' Regret was expressed nt the departure from the district of Mrs. J. E. ' COMING-OF-AGE CELEBRATED Good wishes were showered upon Miss Rita McCauley at the delightful party given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. -McCauley, at their home in Lyndhurst street,' on Monday night in celebration of her coming-of-age.
