; SCIENTISTS & ENGINEERS 1 HOLDERS OF DEGREES ! (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 4. All men with qualifications in 1 science and engineering must now ; give details of their qualifications and - present work. ' In an order signed yesterday, the : Minister of National Service, the Hon. , A. McLagan, called upon all persons [ with these qualifications to apply for I registration by completing a special • form provided for the purpose. The Minister said that positions : were arising calling for men with par--1 ticular training in scientific, engin- • eering and other similar branches of » knowledge and sometimes it was i difficult to locate the right men to fill the positions. It is known that some [ men with particularly good qualifications were at present located in the ordinary ranks ol' the forces and ' others were engaged in clerical and • other unimportant work. 1 The purpose ot the present registration was to provide as complete a ‘ record as possible. Those who must : register were holders of a bachelor's I degree or higher degree of the University of New Zealand in agricultural forestry or home science, or in engineering or architecture, holders ot any corresponding degree of any other university ot educational institution, persons who had passed in New Zealand or elsewhere an examination in any one or more of the technical subjects prescribed for such degree and 1 persons who, by virtue of their scien--1 tific or technical attainments, are members ot any institute or othei association of physicists, engineers or . chemists (not being pharmaceutical ; chemists.) The order does not apply, however, ' to practising registered medical prac--1 tilioners or' to students at the Otago Medical School. Persons who have advanced mathematics to Stage II or beyond should register, as should any person with special experience nr qualifications, which are similar to ■ any of Die specified classes. ; the Minister said it should be clearly understood that the order : covers students as well as graduates, i members of the forces as well as ■ civilians, women as well as men and • aliens as well ns British subjects.
