AIR-LINER DISASTER
10 DEAD; EIGHT INJURED VICTIMS MAINLY OFFICERS (9.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 5. The Eastern Defence Command announced that an aeroplane crashed on Saturday at Bo.twood, Newfoundland, / killing 10 of the 37 people aboard. Five of the dead and eight of the injured were officers. Nineteen escaped injury, including five officers. Poor communication facilities at Botwood made identification of the dead difficult. The plane was towed to shallow waters to facilitate salvage operations. The hull was split jn the crash. The plane’s identity and destination have not been revealed.
