BREAD DELIVERY
VALUE OF ZONING IMPROVEMENT POSSIBLE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Bread zoning having been in operation for a week now, said the North Island transport zoning officer, Mr. H. M. Christie, it is possible to see that without interfering with the output of individual bakeries further improvements in deliveries can be effected. A number of bakeries are delivering with light vans which carry only i comparatively small number of loaves. This means that they have to make too many trips to carry out (heir deliveries. The institution of a delivery pool, or even the establishment of a joint delivery company such as is already in operation in Napier in the delivery of some commodities, would permit the use of larger vans. These vans need not be of a size requiring more than car size tyres. The Napier system has proved a great success. Mr. Christie said, and steps are already in progress to form a similar organisation in Hastings. Pooling permits of a further blocking of deliveries and helps further to eliminate the parallel running of delivery vans.
