MATAWHERO PIG MARKET The offering of only five pigs at the Matawhero stock sale yesterday left many disappointed buyers. There is an increasing demand for pigs now, with the dairy season retting into its stride, and yesterday’s buyers went away empty handed. Small porkers made 30s and heavy porkers £3 7s 6d.

WAIROA STOCK SALE

A fair, yarding of sheep and a small yarding of cattle came forward at the Wairoa stock sale. In most cases there was a total clearance, with prices well' up to vendors’ expectations. DEVON OIL WELL

Further substantial progress has been made by the New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited, in boring at the Devon No. i well, Taranaki, and the depth was advanced by 575 ft. during the past fortnight.

The company's report on the progress 1b as follows: —"Devon No. 1 well has been advanced to a depth of 5390 ft., the formation being unchanged.” The report dated July 30 stated that the Jrill was then in mudstone.
