‘COMING INVASION’
THREAT TO .ITALY START FROM MALTA AIR MARSHAL'S VIEW fßy Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) • (2 p.mj) WASHINGTON, Aug. 13. Air Marshal Lloyd told the press that Malta would be a jumping off place for a coming invasion of Italy. Malta was the key to the British successes in Libya last year, he said. Planes from Malta smashed the German supply lines. Later, General Rommel succeeded in flying in a ‘‘hell of a lot of stuff” from Crete. General Rommel was now just sitting for-lack of supplies. Asked how long Malta would be tenable if General Rommel won Egypt, he replied: ‘‘As long as supplies get in.” Asked ,if .Malta.could be used as a jumping off place for ah invasion of Italy, he replied: “Oh, yes, it will be for the coming invasion."
