Rail Service

Sir,—ln view of the urgent need for conserving petrol and rubber, it seems odd that there is to be delay in providing a passenger service on the new railway. A railcar based on Gisborne could cut out 100 miles of road motor running between Wairoa and Matawai. Until the regular service starts in November surely a railcar could be spared to run to Matawai and return daily and also to make a trip to Wairoa and back after working hours each day. For convenience in handling passengers and mails the railcar might depart from and arrive at a dock on Read’s Quay opposite the Post Office. EUROPA.
